Light Fixtures

After much deliberation, we’ve finally finalized our light fixtures. Here’s what we decided (click any picture for more info):

For the breakfast area:

(That one’s already up, it just casts funny shadows so I haven’t been able to get a good picture of it.)

We also ordered (from a local lighting store) cool aluminum pendants for over the sinks, but I can’t find a picture of them online.

We had a hard time with the living/dining room. With its high ceilings and dedicated “zones” as well as the rustic fireplace and flooring (so different than the rest of the house!), it took us a long time to find something that would work well in there. Rustic but not too country, big enough to not look pathetic against cathedral ceilings, coordinating pieces without looking too matchy-matchy… but we figured it out!

For over the living room area (next to the fireplace):

To tie the room together, we got matching sconces on the opposite side (the dining room part):

And an awesome orb fixture in a coordinating finish over the dining room table:

They’re all ordered but some are on backorder until October. As soon as I have them up I will post pictures!

Finally… Before & After: Playroom Edition

We’re back! The last two months have been incredibly busy and somehow I never found the time to update this blog. Well, now I’m back and I will be posting regularly from now on.

We moved in about a month ago and it’s just been crazy. There’s still a bunch of things that need to be done but overall we are settled. I’ll be putting up before and after pictures over the next few days, starting with the playroom today. (It’s the room that’s the most “finished” – and the neatest! – right now.)

Here’s the playroom before (sorry, terrible pictures – I never got one before we started the demo):

And here it is now!

It still needs a light and a new cabinet to replace the awful natural file cabinet in the corner (a relic from our old computer desk). We’re getting those from Ikea:

We were going to get the matching secretary desk, but it was too small for our needs. I still love it, though!

Instead we got this awesome computer armoire. It hides everything neatly behind its doors, and the kids don’t get into all of my work stuff.

The toy closet is officially the biggest hit with the neighborhood kids. It’s so cute and cozy, they could spend all day in there! It’s the perfect size for them and roomy enough for loads of toys.
